The Palme d&rsquo;or is a timeless symbol of the Festival de Cannes and has been awarded to the best film in this globally-renowned competition for over 60 years. Over 40 hours of work is put into the making of this jewellery marvel - and so it goes without saying whoever's wins has got to earn it. Baker is the first American filmmaker to cinch the festival&rsquo;s top prize since Terrence Malick earned the Palme for &ldquo;The Tree of Life&rdquo; in 2011. &ldquo;Anora&rdquo; is Baker&rsquo;s third film to debut at Cannes, following &ldquo;The Florida Project&rdquo; and &ldquo;Red Rocket.&rdquo; and finally, he snatched a winner - third time's a charm, they say!

Kapadia&rsquo;s film was the first Indian production in 30 years to compete in the main competition at Cannes and this year Payal Kapadia accepted the Grand Prix - which is the festival&rsquo;s second-highest award, for &ldquo;All We Imagine as Light". Her movie focuses on the connections between three Mumbai women of different ages and classes.

Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof caused quite the media controversy as he attended the Cannes Film Festival at great personal risk...fleeing an eight-year prison sentence for making political drama &ldquo;The Seed of the Sacred Fig.&rdquo; The jury created a special award and greeted him with an enthusiastic standing ovation. His 3-hour long film tackles the country&rsquo;s recent Women, Life, Freedom movement through a middle-class family whose two daughters question their father&rsquo;s role in the regime.
