Coldplay have been pulling some seriously gigantic media action on their fans and supporters around the world- let's rewind a few days back when the UAE and region were blowing up with pre-sale tickets attempts to the 4-day sold out shows of Coldplay in Abu Dhabi! Now that we got that out of the way and whoever got their ticket has celebrated and whoever hasn't has mourned and probably still is...Coldplay gave us another jaw-dropping breaking news to dwell on: their retirement plan!
Chris Martin has confirmed all the news, the when and why. Let's find out more!
Chris Martin of Coldplay
Coldplay is easily one of the most famed bands on earth and so it goes without saying that while this band has achieved tremendous milestones in an artist or band's career, no one would expect what would be referred to as an early retirement. The band is set to release their 10th album named "Moon Music". Afterwhich, 2 more albums will be out and that would be it for Coldplay!
Chris Martin confirmed in one of his recent interviews that the band will only do 12 albums. Coldplay's 12th album is self-titled "Coldplay". This album reflects the journey of every member of the band.
While the band hasn't announced the exact release date, Coldplay's 12th and final album is expected somewhere at the end of 2025.
Coldplay in concert
In two days exactly, on Friday October the 4th, Coldplay's 10th album will be released! While referred to as Moon Music; the full title of the album is Music of the Spheres Vol. II: Moon Music.
Chris said, "We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that's real. Yeah, I promise." He added, "There's only seven 'Harry Potter' [books]. There's only 12-and-a-half Beatles albums, there's about the same for Bob Marley, so all our heroes. Also, having that limit means the quality control is so high right now, and for a song to make it, it's almost impossible, which is great."
The band, so far, will perform in Mumbai on Jan 18-21, 2025! Coldplay is gearing up for their long-awaited return to India after eight years. Their concerts are set for January 18, 19 and 21, 2025, at the D Y Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
While the announcement of retirement may come as a shock, Martin clarified that while the band will retire from producing new albums, the members will continue collaborating on different projects.
In the meantime, will we see you at the Abu Dhabi shows in January 2024?
