Return of Dubai Marathon

The 16th Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2016 starts on Friday, January 22nd at 6.30am, with a 7-hour time limit, with both police and medical support enroute. There are set to be around 30,000 runners competing for a $936,000 prize with a bonus of $100,000, if a competitor breaks a record.

If you are not quite up to a 42.195km long marathon, then there is a 10km race and a 4km fun run. The start of the route is at the Madinat Jumeirah junction on Umm Suqeim Road, and finishes at Dubai Police Academy.

Runners will follow the road to the left onto Al Sufouh Road, running past the Dubai College junction, in the direction of The Palm Island Jumeirah, before turning around at The Mirage Hotel entrance to loop back down towards the Jumeirah Beach Road before continuing past the Burj Al Arab in the direction of the Union Flag, before taking the next junction to make the last lap towards Madinat Jumeirah.

The 10km Race will start at the Umm Suqeim Road at 9am, with the 4km Fun Run starting at 11am on Al Wasl Road with both races ending like the marathon at Dubai Police Academy. The routes for all the races will be closed for traffic until 2.30pm with some roads enroute having a phased opening from noon.

Runners are being advised to park their cars along the Al Wasl Road junctions away from the start and finish of the race route to avoid congestion or in the Al Barsha area where you can park and then access the race by crossing over the Dubai Metro Bridge. There is also set to be a drop off point for taxis at the start and finish of the race. The race routes have drink stations every 2.5 kms and medical stations and toilets every 5km and at the end apart from the Fun Run which has water only at the end. Runners who want to compete have to pick up their run numbers between 10am and 7pm on Wednesday January the 20th or Thursday the 21st from 10am until 5pm at the collection point to the left of the Meydan Hotel in the 4th floor Turf Suite. If you cannot collect your own race number then you can designate another person to pick it up for you, as long as they have a copy of your confirmation letter and id.

Tags will be attached to the race bibs to track your race time using the MikaTag electronic timing system.
