BLACK COFFEE (Jo'Burg) Friday 16th May
Considering his meteoric rise to fame, it would be easy to stereotype Black Coffee as just another black diamond, a BEE beat magnet out to mine the insatiable upwardly mobile urban house-party market. But as he proved on his South African Music Award-winning album Home Brewed, this DJ and producer defies convention. Sidestepping Afro-house clichs and stage-managed highs in favour of restrained sophistication, Black Coffee's penchant is for true Afropolitan house: home-brewed but trendsetting, fashion-conscious and future-focused. Expect almost sculptural balance and beauty.
CRAIG DE SOUSA (Cape Town) Friday 30th May
Craig's love and passion for music is demonstrated in each and every performance - whether it's as a house DJ, radio presenter or producer. His fusion of deep and deep tech house can be best described as organic sounds with interesting changes. Expect to hear a well prepare mix of House vibes, Funk & Soul with support from Charl Chaka & John Spoor. Strictly Vinyl is a refreshing Experience with an old school twist. Keepin' it Real, Keepin' in Vinyl...
OSUNLADE (USA) Friday 6thJune
As a youngster Osunlade's weekly allowance was "two records per week at the local record store" in his hometown of St. Louis Missouri. With this kind of encouragement, a love and passion for music was instilled from an early age. A hunger for jazz, soul and funk was fed by these regular visits to the record store and has helped shape his musical output throughout his career. Even now his huge record collection has been spread across the globe from Canada to his home in Greece. His unwavering passion for music means he often has to stop himself from perusing the shelves of record shops when he's on the road, knowing he is bound to go on a spree. This unquenchable thirst for music has been evident and unrelenting since his early years.
"For me, everything is an instrument, it all has sound. So in my eyes, I play every instrument, or at least I can create sound from anything. I think that's the beauty of music. It's not only about talent, it's about perspective and the knowledge of how to create something from nothing and vice versa." - Osunlade
JULLIAN GOMES (PTA South Africa) Friday 13thJune
Jullian Gomes was born and grew up in the Republic of South Africa listening to Soul, Latin and kwaito before discovering House Music at the tender age of eight. Since his first gig in 2003, his career has traveled only upward, and his love for production and skill-set grew steadily with it. Alongside cousin, Michael G, he began the G.Family collective and has released on Top South African Independent labels including Soulcandi and House Afrika followed shortly by records on some of house musics most influential international labels such as Realtone Records, Foliage Records, Atjazz Record Company, Seasons limited, Deepershades Recordings and Earthrumental Music. Now rolling with UK veteran and influential industry stalwart Atjazz and his Record Company, Jullian is on an eternal quest to widen his musical horizons with shuffled claps and electronic soul.
